MESSAGE FROM THE PISFA PRESIDENT:
The PISFA has been in existence for 24 years and, in each of these years, the Association has tried to bring about meaningful programs for its members under the able leadership of all our past officers.
The thrust of our Association at present is to reach out to its constituencies. Through seminars, socials, sports events and regular interactions, the PISFA is actively reaching out to its membership in its attempt to solidify the group as it moves forward for better partnerships between PISFA and its individual members.
Consistent with our goal of building partnerships, PISFA has reached out to various industry associations as well in order to build stronger linkages and, hopefully, be an effective tool to demand for changes vis-a-vis regulations affecting the industry.
Yet, our thrust of reaching out will not be complete unless we make the same effort towards the society of which we are a part. PISFA has embarked on a very ambitious, yet rewarding, partnership with Gawad Kalinga for the purpose of extending assistance to our less fortunate countrymen and, more importantly, to remind ourselves of our social obligation as individuals and corporate citizens. In line with this, we have also raised funds for scholarships in our belief that education is a great equalizer. Other similar social activities are in the pipeline and we are most fortunate to witness the participation of a sizeable number of our membership in these endeavors.
PISFA, as an Association, must remain relevant to its members. Efforts are now being exerted to explore various ways in order to respond to the needs of the membership. Cognizant of the requirement to further professionalize the industry, PISFA has been conducting seminars for its members. In order to increase the base of our professionals and to encourage more to participate in these seminars, our Association has decided to effectively lower the fees for attendance. This effort can easily double the number of participants in our training programs. There are ongoing discussions with other institutions that provide specialized trainings in order to offer more alternative venues for the human resource development of our industry.
The past officers of PISFA have worked tirelessly to relax the container deposit fee with the shipping lines. It is with pride and pleasure that we announce that all these efforts have led to an agreement with our partners in the shipping industry this April 2008.
There is so much more to be done. Yet no task, no matter how challenging, is too difficult with the active assistance of the members of this Association. Together, it is our hope that we could bring PISFA to more years of innovation and growth.
Let us continue to reach out and raise the bar for greater UNITY and EXCELLENCE.
Best regards.
Dexter Yu
PISFA President

Story
It was on March 30, 1984, when about 15 freight forwarding companies, presided by Mr. Dante Castor of OCS Philippines Inc., gathered to formalize the setting up of an association of freight forwarders engaged in international trade. Mr. Al Villaverde, who was then a special guest, revealed that the Phil. Shippers' Council had been looking forward to have such an organization to serve as a forum for the government and the private sector in threshing out problems that hinder the development of the freight forwarding industry which is an integral part in the promotion of the country's international trade.
